Congratulations to Harvard Business School Online

Extension Engine client Harvard Business School (HBS) Online was recently honored with the Eduventures Innovation Award for its Negotiation Mastery course. The award was presented to HBS Online Executive Director Patrick Mullane at a ceremony at 2019 Eduventures Summit, hosted by ACT | NRCCUA, an educational data science, analytics, and research organization.

Selected by a panel of higher education leaders and advisors, winners of the annual Eduventures Innovation Award are recognized for innovations that improve enrollment, student experience, and student outcomes. Now in its 5th year, the Eduventures Innovation Awards Program honors organizations and teams that are shaping the future of higher education.

HBS Online, the digital learning initiative from Harvard Business School, is an active learning, case-based approach to online education. Its mission is to expand the reach of Harvard Business School by providing high-quality business education to a global audience. HBS Online offers the CORe (Credential of Readiness) program — a three-course fundamentals of business program consisting of Economics for Managers, Financial Accounting, and Business Analytics, as well as additional programs in Disruptive Strategy, Entrepreneurship Essentials, Global Business, Leadership Principles, Leading with Finance, Management Essentials, Negotiation Mastery, and Sustainable Business Strategy. Each course is developed and taught by Harvard Business School faculty.

The HBS Online course platform was designed to bring the dynamism of the HBS classroom to online learning, and deliver transformational educational experiences that enable learners to apply their learning. HBS Online programs delivered on the course platform are asynchronous learning experiences where participants complete the materials on their own schedules while meeting regular deadlines. Each program connects learners to a global cohort of like-minded peers.

HBS Online set out to create a course on negotiation that provided high quality instruction, comprehensive feedback, inclusion of a wide array of expert voices, and the opportunity for real-time negotiation simulations. Extension Engine is honored to have worked with HBS Online on the creation of the dynamic learning paths, real-time chat, and the post negotiation analysis tool.

Negotiation Mastery features over two dozen negotiation scholars and experts from higher education, industry, and government including organizations like General Electric and the FBI. These experts come to life through highly-produced videos and interactive simulations which support HBS’ renowned case method of learning. The course breaks free from linear course content, and analyzes learner competencies and places learners on personalized paths. This provides a significant improvement in learner efficiency and overall learner experience.

The course builds on HBS Online’s existing social learning functionality to offer real-time, chat-based, peer-to-peer negotiation simulations. Throughout the course, learners have the opportunity to engage in four real-time negotiation simulations with their peers via real-time chat. Afterward, the earners are presented with rich analytics to understand how the negotiation unfolded and where they can improve their tactics. At the end of the course, participants are equipped with a set of analytical tools to craft negotiation strategies and a framework to guide learning and improvement in future years.

The program truly is groundbreaking and congratulations to the HBS Online team are well deserved. Visit https://online.hbs.edu/ to learn more.
